Hey there, friends! Brendan here once again, coming to you with a revelation that has genuinely shocked me: it is nearly September. Apart from being objectively the best month to be born in (shoutout to my fellow Virgos, and a smattering of Libras) it's also the end of summer break!

Yes, the school year is on, which means parents the nation over are trying to figure out how to feed their hungry kiddos after classes are dismissed. It would be easy for me to just sit here and suggest Nakee Butter as the solution to that dilemma, which it definitely can be if you check out our store page. I wanted to explain some of the reasoning behind that, though, and things to seek out and avoid in after-school snacks even if you don't pick our pouches!

Spreads With Benefits

Although I may have grown up at a time when dinosaurs still roamed the earth and snack options were rather limited, I remember that the thing I craved above all else was flavor. Something that tasted great trumped all considerations, and though Nakee definitely has that covered, I know that parents keep a lot more in mind at the grocery store.

During childhood, the body requires a higher intake of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and healthy fats to support rapid growth, build strong bones, and develop a healthy immune system. That's something that Nakee was built from the ground up to provide, with many of those nutrients and their benefits being outlined on this very blog. To provide a synopsis, though, each (vegan!) pouch contains 12 grams of protein and active ingredients like C8 MCT oil, chaga mushrooms and elderberries. There's also a minimal amount of sugar, with the sweetening role largely taken on by agave.

Keep It Simple, Silly!

Speaking of simplicity, we know that the easiest way to eat Nakee Butter is to open the pouch and enjoy it (we did a lot of scientific analysis on that, just trust us). It's certainly not the only way, though, as our website's recipe section will attest. There are a lot of simply delicious and deliciously simple ways to use Nakee as an ingredient in a variety of treats, and any one of them could serve as a great after-school snack. We're also looking to expand that section soon, and would love to hear of any other recipes or uses for Nakee that you've tried out yourself; leave us a comment or tell us about it at Eastern Market this Saturday!

Just One More Thing...

True to my word, I wanted to go over a few important things to remember when looking at any snack, whether it's for you or the kiddos, and whether it's for after school, work or anything else you might be up to. Here's what I came up with:

  • It’s important to look for snacks that are low in added sugars, unhealthy fats, and artificial additives, while being rich in essential nutrients like fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals. These junk foods are extra nefarious considering many of them have addictive qualities!
  • Choosing whole, minimally processed foods, such as fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain crackers, and yogurt, can provide kids with the energy they need to stay active and focused throughout the day.
  • Parents should also pay attention to portion sizes to prevent overeating and consider snacks that are convenient and easy for kids to eat on the go.
  • Lastly, involving children in the snack selection process can encourage them to make healthier choices and foster positive eating habits that will benefit them throughout their lives.

I admit that, as an adult, I find myself looking forward to back-to-school sales. They usually have sticky notes on sale, and as anyone at Nakee HQ can attest, we can never have too many of those!

Anyways, that's me done for the day. Next week, I'm looking forward to writing a bit more about the elements of Nakee Butter that boost the immune system, something that I know is extra relevant for schools! Thanks for reading, and have a great day out there!
