Our Story

From personal fuel to purposeful food

Nakee Co. began with Evan’s search for better fuel. With a background in bodybuilding, he wanted something that could keep up with an active lifestyle without tasting chalky, feeling overly processed, or being packed with sugar. That search sparked the idea for something different.

Nakee started in a basement with a Cuisinart mixer and a simple idea: create something functional that people would actually crave. From there, Nakee grew from small-batch experimenting to shared kitchens, and eventually into our own Michigan warehouse and manufacturing facility — all built around making Spreads With Benefits® for real life.

Built From the Ground Up

Since 2015, Nakee has been bootstrapped, built by hand, and grown one step at a time. We started small, moved through shared kitchens, and eventually built our own Michigan warehouse and manufacturing facility — but we’ve never lost the hands-on approach that got us here.

Eastern Market has been a huge part of that journey. It’s where we showed up week after week, met customers face-to-face, got honest feedback, and built real relationships with the Detroit community that helped shape Nakee from the beginning.

Today, our small team still makes everything ourselves in small batches — with care, intention, and a whole lot of grit. We’re grateful for our Detroit roots and the people who continue to grow with us.
