Hello, hello! Yes, whether you can believe it or not, we're prepping for another Super Bowl, and you know exactly what that means. The glitzy commercials, the endless hours of theorizing from the talking heads on ESPN and... no Lions, for some reason.
Hey, we're proud Detroiters here at Nakee, and we've got the best coach there is, but that's not why you're here. Whether you're commiserating or celebrating, Super Bowl Sunday is at the very least a chance to score some great snacks, and we wanted to help you guys set up the perfect charcuterie board that won't leave your guests charcuterie bored (I am very sorry).
Although it is the stereotype, much like Thanksgiving dinner, game day spreads don't have to be unhealthy! Consider including crisp slices of bell peppers, cucumber rounds, and cherry tomatoes alongside nutrient-dense greens like baby spinach and arugula. Pair these with colorful fruit options such as apple slices, grapes, and berries, which add natural sweetness and a burst of vitamins. Dips like hummus, guacamole, or a Greek yogurt-based ranch not only complement the veggies but also provide a protein boost and healthy fats.
Enhance the assortment with a small selection of nuts and seeds—such as almonds, walnuts, or pumpkin seeds—to add crunch and additional healthy fats. Additionally whole-grain crackers or rice cakes offer a satisfying base for the array of toppings! Of course, there's really no better option than Nakee Butter when it comes to nuts and snacks, but we're trying to broaden our horizons a bit!
There'll be plenty of clamoring for protein, and thankfully there are many options even if you prefer the only animal around to be the pigskin being thrown by Mahomes and Hurts! We recommend you opt for lean, minimally processed meat; slices of turkey breast, grilled chicken skewers, or plant-based proteins like marinated tofu can serve as excellent, low-fat alternatives to traditional cured meats. (The irony of this is that the name charcuterie is a French word referring to traditional cured meats from the 15th century.)
I even saw this recipe for baked tofu bites that looks so good I may have to make it myself. If you want to try something a bit more esoteric on the this front, roasted chickpeas, edamame, or even a spread made from blended white beans offer excellent protein while contributing additional fiber and essential nutrients.
Of course, what Super Bowl party is complete without some fun drinks (especially if your team is down by a few scores)? While looking around recently I found this wonderful list of healthy game day recipes that includes a very tasty-looking non-alcoholic margarita. (Honestly, everything in that article looks beyond delicious!) There are other options too, like infused water with citrus and mint, homemade fruit spritzers with sparkling water, or antioxidant-rich iced green tea provide natural flavor and essential nutrients.
Smoothies made with Greek yogurt, berries, and a touch of honey offer a satisfying, protein-packed option, while coconut water helps replenish electrolytes for sustained energy. These beverages not only cater to all guests but also help balance out heavier game-day snacks, ensuring everyone stays refreshed and feeling their best throughout the festivities, at least until the game goes to overtime!
Well, that's it from me today. I won't lie to you all, I'm bummed that we won't get to see Jared Goff holding up the Lombardi until next year, but at least we're gonna eat good. Have a safe and wonderful weekend, and see you all on Monday, when we have a special announcement on our Instagram! 😉 See you then!
