Hey there, all. Brendan here once again, and even as I write this, I can feel the chill in that early autumn air. Despite the wishes of so many of us, the seasons are changing once again, and persistent overcast heralds the arrival of the fall. Bleh! But, at the very least, it's an excuse to enjoy some new Nakee Butter recipes, and that's certainly something to get excited about.
Today I wanted to share some morning treats with you guys. Breakfast is, as the aphorism goes, the most important meal of the day, and making sure that you're fueled for whatever you've got planned is important.
You may have seen (or, if you're extra lucky, experienced) the Nakee Butter paninis at the Barefoot and Free festival not too long ago. For a simpler but equally tasty version of those, simple take a tortilla wrap and spread Nakee Butter of either or both flavors in a strip down the middle, looking a little like a "no entry" sign. Then take some of your favorite fruits (we recommend sliced apples and bananas) and add them over the Nakee Butter. Close the tortilla, and you have a breakfast burrito worth bragging about!
There's a couple ways to do this one. The most simple and intuitive one is, of course, just to spread some Nakee Butter on a piece of toast, but you can do a lot more if you're so inclined. Personally, I've made toast with Nakee Butter and added some sliced banana. You could even make this into a sandwich if you wanted to, and in my entirely honest and totally unbiased opinion, it's pretty damn good! You can read more about this in a vintage Nakee blog post here.
This works a bit better for Nakee Butter Immunity in my experience, but you can do it with either flavor. Again, though, it's a pretty simple hack: just substitute the maple syrup on your morning waffles (or pancakes, if you dislike plaid pastries) for Nakee Butter. Spread it around a bit. It adds a much deeper flavor profile and is definitely better tasting than you might otherwise expect, especially if you're one of those folks who adds a bit of vanilla to your waffle or pancake mix. (Brendan tangent here: I'm going to be trying this trick with a banana nut muffin this weekend. I'll keep you guys posted on if it's any good!)
That's right, we're going to the very top of the "foods that aren't typically healthy, but we can make them that way" pyramid (we're working on a shorter name). Making doughnuts at home isn't as tricky as you might suspect, and doing so allows you to control what ingredients are used. I found this simple and inexpensive recipe online that should work just fine, but I'd personally recommend skipping the glaze and just adding a spread of Nakee on top. If anyone happens to try spreading Nakee Butter Immunity on those pumpkin spice doughnuts you can get at Kroger, let me know; I have a sneaking suspicion that might be fantastic.
Okay, okay. I probably got a bit carried away with the doughnuts idea, I know. Here's something much simpler and just as brilliant: Nakee Butter banana oatmeal bars. It pairs perfectly with the core pillars of what inspired Nakee in the first place, with no added sugar and no gluten. This bar, as the essay attached to the recipe will tell you, was originally designed for kids and thus doesn't have the often-enhanced flavors adults might be used to, but substituting Nakee for regular peanut butter will definitely help to compensate for that!
So there's a few ideas! I'm realizing in retrospect how many of them involve banana, and want to add the value of potassium to this discussion. You can read more about it here, but the tl;dr is simply that it's indispensable to the functioning of the body, and getting it through these recipes is a boon in itself. You have my word that this post is not sponsored by Big Banana.
In any case, thank you so much for reading. If you decide to try any of these recipes (or all of them!), leave a comment or drop us a line and send some pictures, let us know how they tasted. We'd also love to hear how you've integrated Nakee Butter into your favorite recipes, be they for breakfast or otherwise. Thanks again, and have a great weekend, friends! This is Brendan, signing off for now.
