So today's the day! It's Halloween, like Christmas with a sweet tooth, one of those days we all remember looking forward to as a kid. I scoff a little at those kiddos I see now who have proper treat bags, though; when I was growing up, I had to use an old pillow case (and, yes, walk uphill both ways in the snow for school!).

Anyways, I wanted to share a few tasty and holiday-appropriate recipes with you guys. These are all pretty simple and are good fodder for last-minute prep if you have a Halloween party tonight or some kind of bake sale that you weren't told about till the last minute-- hey, it happens to all of us!

Spider Cookies

Arachnophobes beware, as this one is in the spirit of the spooky season! These adorable and edible critters are the result of a no-frills recipe that is best completed with the assistance of the treats' eventual devourers. Here's a link to everything you'll need to make it happen, but in summary, these are peanut butter cookies with the addition of pretzel sticks for legs.

One of the recipes that I found for this mentions using chocolate chips as eyes, but given the (delicious) flavor of Nakee Butter already including cacao, you could try something else instead– maybe make the eyes out of frosting. You could instead use pre-made sprinkles that look like eyes, though I admit they might be difficult to explain to an inquisitive spouse. Edit: While doing additional research after writing this blog, I found another adorable recipe that would work well with Nakee Butter; read about it here.

Popcorn Balls

This isn't exactly the craziest recipe, so I figured I'd just lay it out here:
Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup Nakee Butter (Immunity flavor recommended)
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 8 cups air-popped popcorn
  • 1/4 cup vegan butter
Instructions:
  1. Melt Nakee Butter, vegan butter, and maple syrup over low heat.
  2. Drizzle the mixture over air-popped popcorn and gently stir to coat.
  3. Form into balls, let them cool, and serve as a festive Halloween party treat!

This is actually something I plan on making myself later tonight. If I can remember, I'll post the results soon (if you decide to do the same, be sure to tag us on Instagram).

Pumpkin & Nakee Butter Energy Bites

I won't even lie, this one seems like the most work out of the recipes I researched and tried to come up with, but that just means it has extra potential, right? Anyways, it'll take a few more ingredients than I'd guess the average kitchen has, but nothing you'd need to look too hard to find at the local supermarket:

  • 1 cup Nakee Butter
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Again, this recipe is one I think would work best with Immunity Butter. However, since there are ingredients that correlate to the flavor profiles of each of the flavors we have (so far!), you could potentially remove those to try and prevent those flavors from dominating the treats as a whole.

Here's the instructions, as clean as I could make them:

  • Mix Nakee Butter, pumpkin puree, oats, maple syrup, and pumpkin pie spice in a bowl.
  • Fold in mini chocolate chips.
  • Roll into bite-sized balls and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Serve chilled for a perfect fall-inspired Halloween snack!
  • If you do end up making this recipe, please do share it with us. We'd love to see what it looks and tastes like!

    "Witch's Brew"

Here's a treat for everyone to throw in the old thermos while you're out trick-or-treating. It's not warm, but you won't run out of energy after a few blocks, at least! The witch's brew, as we've taken to calling it, is simply a smoothie that combines Nakee with a few other ingredients for an extra tasty treat.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 tbsp Nakee Butter
    • 1 frozen banana
    • 1/2 cup spinach
    • 1/2 cup almond milk
    • 1 tbsp chia seeds
    • A dash of cinnamon

You might be able to skip the cinnamon on this one, and we wouldn't fault you if you felt like spinach might be a bit much (or at least an ingredient you won't mention to the kids). Whatever you choose to include, we hope you enjoy it!

Anyways, that's the tweet... er, the blog! Be sure to post a few pics of whatever you make and tag us on the social platform of your preference. Stay safe out there tonight, remember to look both ways before you cross the street, and remember: candy corn is the worst Halloween candy! See y'all next week; this is Brendan, signing off for now.
